Kate Garraway sees the ‘sorrow’ in her husband’s eyes after a groundbreaking medical treatment journey.

Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway spoke of the grief and hope felt during Derek’s coronavirus recovery. Derek spent a year in hospital after being infected with the virus in March 2020. Since returning home, Kate has been caring for him.

Kate opened up in her new ITV documentary. Caring for Derek airs Tuesday, February 22.

Speaking to The Sun, Kate revealed that Derek had traveled to Mexico to take part in a medical trial.

She said: “He’s so desperate to get better,

“He will do everything he can to make this happen.

“I think actually there’s a lot of hope for him to get better. I think the treatment could be positive. I want to be a bit careful not to say too much, because I’m aware that everyone will say, ‘What is the trial?’

“And I don’t want to start something, offering false hope to others who might be in a similar situation.”

Kate also told The Sun how lonely she sometimes felt.

“It’s like there’s both grief and hope at the same time,” Kate commented.

“There are flashes of old Derek, then he disappears again, and you feel really alone.”

She went on to add, “Derek dreams of ‘the front’, and every morning it’s so, so awful to see him wake up and realize where he is.

“There is a kind of tear in his eyes, every morning. You can just see it.
