Doctor shares video removing 23 contact lenses from forgetful patient’s eye
A California doctor has shared a bizarre video of her removing 23 contact lenses from the eye of a forgetful patient.
Ophthalmologist Dr Katerina Kurteeva’s video of her removing one contact lens after another has now gone viral with over a million views.
According her Instagram postthe patient put in a new contact lens every day for 23 days but never took out the others.
“A rare occasion where someone ‘forgot’ to remove contact lenses at night and continued to put in a new one every morning,” she posted on the California Eye Associates page. “I have to deliver the batch of contact lenses.”
Dr Kurteeva said she could not believe what she was seeing, after the patient complained of pain and blurred vision.
“My mind jumped at the possibilities of what it could be: a piece of broken contact lens, a scratch on the cornea, an infection, an eyelash or makeup debris. I would only know for sure once that I would have passed the exam. she said Initiated.
“When I asked him to look down I could see the edges of a few contacts stuck together. As I pulled them out I felt I could still see more and asked my assistant to pick up my phone to record the withdrawal.
“Asking the patient to look down, I could see a huge blob of dark purple contact lenses stuck to her eye. He almost looked like a second student. I slowly started using a cotton swab to peel off the lenses one by one, like you were dealing a deck of cards.
“They were coming out in a chain, falling on his lid. There were a lot of contact lenses – I thought this might be my Guinness Book of World Record moment.
And she added: “In almost 20 years of practice, I had never seen anything like it. The patient didn’t believe it either and asked me if I was sure of the number I was counting.
Dr Kurteeva said the patient was discharged with eye drops and felt “already better”.
