We all saw it last season. The Chicago White Sox weren’t a hugely confident team defensively. This was evident for a number of different reasons and, like many fans, I was hoping it would be a point of attention this winter. However, the team chose not to address this concern in any meaningful way. On the contrary, the Sox let the problem escalate and it is already showing up in the first six weeks of the 2022 season.

error prone

Entering play Monday, the White Sox rank fifth in all major league baseball with 26 team errors. That leaves them one mistake behind a quartet of rebuilding clubs: Pittsburgh, Arizona, Washington and Oakland. Needless to say, this isn’t a group you want to be associated with statistically, especially if you imagine yourself to be a viable World Series contender.

Those of us who observe this team day to day know what we see with our eyes. These errors are largely not due to players having excellent range to reach balls that average defenders would not. Instead, it was largely unforced errors. And those mistakes are costing the team games, most recently in the ninth-inning slump that happened last Monday against Cleveland.

Left side, weak side

No player has been more prone to these blips than shortstop Tim Anderson. TA received praise last season for his improvement on the field as he put on one of the most consistent defensive seasons of his young career. He ended the 2021 campaign making just 10 errors. Well, here in 2022, he’s committed a league-high nine errors in 13 games that started in Cleveland a few weeks ago.

Again, many of these errors were unforced in nature, as we saw rushing throws from Anderson that either knocked Jose Abreu out of the sack or missed him completely. The impact of these errors on the pitching staff cannot already be underestimated. During Anderson’s two-error inning at Cleveland, Dallas Keuchel was unable to stop the bleeding that eventually led to him allowing 10 runs. Last week against the Guardians, two more Tim errors allowed the floodgates to open in the catastrophic ninth-inning collapse.

But this problem goes beyond Tim Anderson. His leftwing counterparts Jake Burger and the recently returned Yoan Moncada have compounded the problem. Add to that a pair of first basemen playing from outside corners (more on that later) contributing to unforced errors, and this team has simply been a giant mess on the defensive side of the ball.

out of position

As if unforced errors weren’t enough, the Chicago White Sox’s poor roster construction forced square pegs into round holes in the form of Andrew Vaughn and Gavin Sheets attempting to play outside corner positions. The issues with these two surfaced quickly, as Vaughn’s lack of range prevents him from making plays that even average outfielders would make.

Meanwhile, Sheets notably missed a routine steal directly on him that would have ended the top of the first against Cleveland last week.

Sheets himself has shown he lacks the athleticism required to be anything other than a 1B/DH. I hope with every fiber of my being that Tony La Russa does the right thing in Kansas City’s vast outfield this week and doesn’t put this team behind the eight ball playing alongside Luis Robert and/or by Adam Engel.

old adage

There’s an old adage that apparently dates back to the early days of this game, “pitcher and defense win championships.” If so, then the White Sox as they currently stand are anything but a championship-caliber team. Being one of the top five teams in the league by team errors won’t position the White Sox as a viable threat in October.

I did some independent research and went back to the turn of the century to see how many teams finished in the top five in team errors and won the pennant. The answer was one, that’s all. Only one team consistently gave teams extra outings and managed to overcome it. The 2012 San Francisco Giants, at the heart of their championship dynasty, found a way to overcome their constant defensive mistakes en route to beating the Detroit Tigers to win their second of three championships a decade ago.

Seeing a single lone team being able to excel in other facets of the game to undo a poor defensive performance doesn’t inspire a huge amount of confidence for the Sox at this point. Now, I know that errors aren’t a huge measure of overall team defense and effectiveness. However, as we’ve seen with our own eyes, this team consistently giving their opponent four and five outs in an inning hasn’t been something they can overcome for a host of other reasons.

Unclear solution

We’re sitting 33 games into a 162-game marathon, and a problem that plagued the Chicago White Sox a year ago continues to do so. How do they solve these problems? Frankly, I have no idea. List construction flaws will, in my opinion, prevent the team from resolving the issue in any meaningful way.

It looks like the White Sox will just have to rely on players here who either come close to career standards or who, in some places, overperform. The collective leadership of this team that finds ways to put players in the best position to succeed will also prove important. The hope is that as the season progresses they are able to maneuver enough pieces that they don’t have to put 1B/DH types in vital corners of the outfield and compromise an already questionable group. .

Can the South Siders defense improve by the end of the season? Sure. But I’m fairly certain that if it doesn’t, it will be one of the main culprits in preventing the Sox from achieving their preseason aspirations and it will represent another lost year of a competitive window.

OPINION: As if we don’t have enough gangs in New Zealand. So much that I imagine we are running out of colors. With all the main primary colors appropriated by our traditional gangs, it has to be reduced to pale pink, duck blue and mauve for the new gangs that seem to be forming on a daily basis. Now there’s a brutal, vicious and deadly new gang plundering the Waitakere Ranges.

Destroying important colonies of ecological birds is no fun. Shedding light on the decimation of our shorebirds is no fun. I strongly support the protection of all of our important and endangered wildlife. It’s just that the slightly ‘bent’ side of me is drawn to the antagonists after reading this story about a gang of fluffy, red-haired serial killers terrorizing wildlife in the Waitakere Ranges.

Are they fluffy that catches my bubbly gaze? Or are they red? Are we even allowed to call them “ginger” in 2022? Aren’t they supposed to be called “red head”, “auburn” or “strawberry blonde”? It’s very hard to read ‘gang of fluffy ginger cats’ without a guilty smile. Again, I know these are very, very mean cats. They are bad cats. It’s a murderous “Pussy Posse”, but it’s orange furballs.

I think we can all remember the anger of this cat-loving nation when Gareth Morgan suggested a mild cat eradication program. For at least 15 minutes of his fame, he became New Zealand’s answer to “Jesse James”.

Facebook was alive with crazed cat lovers demanding that Morgan be sent to the guillotine. Suggesting that the cats be sent to “The Green Mile” may have been the start of his political defeat. So I think the suggestion to run the “Ginger Pussy Gang” isn’t going to go down well.

Waitakere Ranges, Auckland. Beneath the canopy of trees is a battle of life and death

My suggestion – and I think it’s inspired – is to rally willing cat lovers on dawn raids in the Waitakeres wearing camouflage and falconer gloves.

Use special body heat glasses [I’m just using my imagination here]they find the gangs, go through their barbed wire enclosures and catch the little gangsters, all of them. Then the whole gang is carefully loaded into white vans and driven to a feline reformatory. Some might say prison. I prefer to think of it as a more military camp, but without the possibility of weekend leave. Rather the French Foreign Legion. The cats are then put through a strict program of regimented behavioral therapy. First stop, the barbers, where they will all submit their soft delicacy to a good old number one. Short back and sides without facial hair.

All tattoos will be covered and gang patches will of course be left at the front door. Then they will be assigned to barracks, with individual cages, which they must keep in order at all times. During the day, they will be up at 6:00 a.m. for practice. Training will include hunting rodents and learning to taste meat from rodents rather than native birds. Bad behavior will result in solitary time with only “Canine Rescue” and “Paw Patrol” for entertainment.

Karen Saunders, founder of Waiheke Island’s Native Bird Rescue, regularly cares for chicks injured or orphaned by cats.

Seriously, I appreciate how bad it is to have a sneaky, crafty gang of fluffy ginger pussy inbred cats. It is absolutely essential that we remove them from where they are carrying out their illegal operation in the Waitakeres, but we cannot kill them. We can NOT kill cats. Again, ask Gareth Morgan. There would be a league of outraged ‘Feline Fanciers’ members protesting outside parliament faster than you can say ‘Here Kitty Kitty!’

I’m all for removing the Pussy Posse Gang from these hills, but euthanize them at your peril. As much as we are a nation of bird lovers and conservationists, we are also a nation of cat lovers. In fact, we may be the country with the most cats per capita in the world.

So while we’re sending redheads to reform school, we could also start sending those who don’t de-examine their pets to a school for the chronic irresponsible.

With a newly streamlined board of directors, the Utah Inland Ports Authority looks set to step up its plans to become a significant force in America’s supply chain.

Lawmakers restructured the composition of the council earlier this year, removing representation from affected towns like Magna and West Valley, and replacing them mostly with lawmakers and business leaders.

That new board held its first public meeting on Wednesday, when it discussed boosting rail capacity at the 16,000-acre port, which occupies the still underdeveloped northwest quadrant of Salt Lake City.

Jack Hedge, the authority’s chief executive, told new board members that the port is well placed to help ease the pinch felt in seaports and the ripple effects the pain has across the country.

“The pandemic has exposed some long-standing fragilities in our national supply chain and, frankly, in our economy,” Hedge said. “…We are a solution.”

HB443 reduced the board of directors from 11 voting members to five, with three appointed by the Legislative Assembly and two by Governor Spencer Cox. New board members sworn in on Wednesday include Chairman Miles Hansen, president and CEO of the World Trade Center Utah; Vice Chairman Dan Hemmert of the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity; Representative Mike Schultz, R-Hooper; and Senator Jerry Stevenson, R-Layton.

An agenda for the meeting listed Theresa Foxley, president and CEO of the Utah Economic Development Corporation, as the fifth board member, although she was not present.

SLC rep sees a ‘double-edged sword’

The council is also supposed to have three non-voting members, including a Salt Lake City Council member and two people with transportation and logistics experience. But the only non-voting member who appears to have been appointed so far is Victoria Petro-Eschler, a first-term council member who represents the capital’s District 1.

She is also the only board member who lives in an area that will undoubtedly be impacted and transformed by the Inner Port.

“This project is perhaps the greatest double-edged sword that will ever come to my community in a generation,” Petro-Eschler said at the meeting.

(Chris Samuels | The Salt Lake Tribune) Salt Lake City Council member Victoria Petro-Eschler speaks in December 2021. She is a nonvoting member of the Inner Harbor Board of Directors.

The council member expressed her optimism about the economic opportunities and jobs that could come for her constituents, for example in Rose Park and Jordan Meadows. But she also shared her worries about the long-term consequences, like deteriorating air quality and noise pollution.

Petro-Eschler noted the difficulties facing Elwood, Illinois. Home to the country’s largest inland port, the city faces a barrage of truck traffic from giant retailers, but few stable, well-paying jobs. Its water supply is also about to dry up.

“I’m confident we’re smarter, that we can learn from history and apply lessons, and we can do that in a strategic way that brings economic benefits,” Petro-Eschler said. “But we can’t, for a moment, take our eyes off the ball or this thing will go off the literal and metaphorical rails.”

The Port Authority’s first act of “good faith”, she says, should be to create overpasses at level crossings so that emergency vehicles and commuters are not constantly delayed by trains.

“I can’t tell you how much money I spent on late fees picking up my kids from kindergarten,” she said, “because I got stuck at one of those crossings. stinky level.”

The role of rail and road

Supporting more rail infrastructure is a top priority for the Port Authority, which secured a $150 million bond last year to build projects like a transshipment facility that will move goods from trucks to trains and back. .

Hedge noted other proposals that will benefit affected Salt Lake City neighborhoods, including overnight parking for tractor-trailers.

“Today, between 200 and 400 trucks a night are parked on the streets of our city in Salt Lake City, mostly on the west side,” he said, adding that in hot or cold conditions, these trucks run at idle at all times to ensure driver comfort. “It puts a lot of pollution in the atmosphere…and also a lot of noise pollution.”

However, new board members didn’t seem entirely happy with how the Port Authority has invested its public funds to date, questioning the nearly $11 million contracted to expand 700 North. Those dollars came from a state infrastructure fund that lawmakers considered allocating to the port in 2019 to improve rail access near Interstate 80.

(The Salt Lake Tribune) Republican Representative Mike Schultz is a member of the board of the Utah Inland Park Authority.

“Rail should be what we primarily focus on,” Schultz said, “not roads, not truck traffic.”

Council members demanded copies of Port Authority contracts, signaling that they would explore “escape clauses” and what the cost would be to cancel the agreements. They also suggested a legislative audit of the port authority.

“This is not a witch hunt,” Stevenson said. “It makes sense for all of us involved, that we look at exactly where we are here. Are there any contracts we have that we may not want to be involved in?”

Some members of the public took the suggestion of an audit as a sign that the new council is open to greater transparency.

(The Salt Lake Tribune) Republican Senator Jerry Stevenson, introduced in 2018, is a member of the board of directors of the Utah Inland Port Authority.

“The public would be very grateful for this information,” Deeda Seed, with Stop the Polluting Port Coalition, told the board. “One of the challenges we’ve faced…is really the lack of information about what’s planned.”

How the meeting went

Wednesday’s meeting marked the first time the Port Authority has not livestreamed its meeting since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, even though the board met in a committee hearing room on Capitol Hill. who has the ability to broadcast. The board did not allow virtual participation. At least three members of the public did not have enough time to comment. The port authority also did not post the meeting agenda on its own website.

Community members raised several other concerns with the new council that have been shared with other councils in the past, including how water consumption from the harbor would affect the shrinking Great Salt Lake. Others urged council to come up with a thoughtful master plan instead of letting developers and private landowners determine the future of the northwest quadrant.

Seed called on council members to better engage with the public and explain the business case for the inland port.

“In Utah, we pride ourselves on our hard work and a Western spirit of self-reliance,” Seed said. “Yet, sadly right now, the Port Authority is the epitome…of social capitalism based on giving taxpayers’ money to special interests.”

Hansen, the chairman, said virtual attendance is “absolutely” something the board could consider in the future. He also reported that the council would meet much more frequently.

“My commitment is that we will act urgently,” he said, to address the global supply chain crisis.

Blackburn Rovers ended the 2021/22 season in style with victory in Tony Mowbray’s final game. Criers of John Buckley and Ben Brereton Diaz helped them beat Birmingham City 2-1 and finish eighth in the Championship.

The sun was shining at St Andrew’s as Mowbray pulled back the curtain on five years at Ewood Park with victory. Without a doubt, Rovers’ two best goals of the campaign were a fitting tribute to their outgoing boss.

Attention now turns to the summer with plenty to decide, including the next manager. Right here, Live throws brings you the highs and lows of the season finale against Birmingham City.

READ MORE: Every word Tony Mowbray said on Blackburn Rovers exit, future and Ben Brereton Diaz investment

UPS

Sign for Mowbray

It was a fitting way to end the Mowbray era, with a packed ending taking advantage of the season finale in the sun. The Blackburn Rovers boss has reiterated his intention to leave despite a scheduled phone call with the owner next week.

The goals were of sublime quality. Buckley’s strike from range was an arrow destined for the top corner from the moment it left his boot.

Brereton Diaz tried to outshine it with his own impression of a Cristiano Ronaldo knuckleball, which deflected and dived under Neil Etheridge’s crossbar.

A glimpse of the future?

Have we taken a look at the Blackburn Rovers midfielder for next season? The second-half introduction of Bradley Dack saw Buckley fall next to Lewis Travis in a deeper midfield role and he caught the eye.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a breakout season and his composure in possession was evident in the second half at St Andrew’s. With the game ahead of him, Buckley has shown maturity on the ball, which could suggest he is capable of being Joe Rothwell’s replacement.

While the game was not played at a ferocious pace in Birmingham, Buckey auditioned alongside Travis and when complemented by a fully fit Dack could be a tasty option. Technically, they could compete with most midfielders in the Championship, although this combination might be a bit lacking in physicality and height.

Nonetheless, with Rovers needing to sign at least two midfielders, Buckley has shown they can have their replacement Rothwell ready for the club.

The intelligence of Ryan Hedges

It was another eye-catching performance from Ryan Hedges after struggling against Bournemouth last weekend. He showed variety in his game which offers food for thought.

Against Preston, his work rate was particularly evident. At St Andrew’s he was a constant threat, drifting into pockets of space from the right.

Birmingham couldn’t handle his move. While a simple pass for Buckley’s goal, it was his run as number 10 that created the angle for Ben Brereton Diaz’s pass, who was then laid off for the strike.

Ryan Hedges exploits the space in front of the Birmingham City defense with an outside-in run.

Hedges' run allows him to win the ball back and drop Buckley, who has filled the space created by his smart run.
Hedges’ run allows him to win the ball back and drop Buckley, who has filled the space created by his smart run.

In the second half he was more worthy of a No.10 than a right winger, exploiting huge holes in front of the Blues defense and linking play with wide forwards. With a full pre-season, it’s exciting to think about what Hedges could become as he continues to add more strings to his bow.

Reasons to be optimistic

Look, it’s not what everyone expected in February, but eighth place is progress. The team has exceeded pre-season expectations and there are reasons to be positive.

Undoubtedly, there will be some big additions to be made this summer, but the core of this squad is cause for excitement. Tyrhys Dolan, Scott Wharton and Buckley have continued their development and will be part of the backbone next season.

Hedges and Dack will only contribute after a full pre-season, as will Dilan Markanday, who returned from injury as a substitute on Saturday. It’s exciting to see what they can offer the team next season with hopefully some reinforcements.

Stockings

The pressure is on

While listing all the exciting prospects above, there are also risks if Blackburn Rovers are not proactive this summer. With even less time to prepare, time is running out.

The season restarts at the end of July. Acquiring a new manager and being forward-thinking in the transfer market will be essential.

It is likely that all the most attractive free agents will be signed very early. There could then be a wait for loan deals as Premier League clubs finalize their squads for the next campaign.

With very little money circulating in the league transfer market after COVID-19, smart and early recruitment is essential. For that to happen, the club needs to know who their manager will be.

Essendon legend Tim Watson thinks the Bombers don’t need an external review in their slow start to 2022, instead offering a different solution to address the problems on the pitch.

Ben Rutten’s troops have won one of their first seven games to start the season and look a far cry from the side that made the final last year.

Their midfielder has taken the brunt of the blame from fans and media pundits, and reports have surfaced this week that the players are confused about their roles in the squad.

Bombers champion Matthew Lloyd has suggested a pair of outside eyes would be beneficial if the club chooses to do another review, but Watson believes the issues at the Hangar can be resolved internally.

Asked by SEN breakfast co-host Garry Lyon if there is a need for an external review, Watson was resolved saying the Bombers’ issues should be resolved by the club’s coaching panel.

“It seems there is, and we had (Essendon assistant vice-captain) Andrew McGrath in our news yesterday talking about their midfield and midfield issues… and there is confusion” , did he declare.

“So they don’t need a review, what they need to do is get each one of those midfielders who are potentially confused about what they should or shouldn’t be doing and sit them down. individually and say, ‘Okay, this situation, what do you think we should be doing around the stoppage, center rebound stoppage, where do you think you should be?’.

“Do it individually and find out whether or not there’s some confusion to start with and put these guys on one page.

“It’s not an external review, it’s an internal review of the way you play, your game plan and the way you coach.

“Coaching is teaching and teaching is communication, if there is a breakdown here in communication it needs to be addressed and corrected.”

Rutten is only in his second year of senior coaching after taking over from John Worsfold at the end of 2020.

After the strong start to his coaching career, this stands as the first time the 38-year-old has come under significant pressure in the coaching box.

“In this case, and we’re all guilty of this, we go from 0 to 100 very quickly, a team loses a few games and we start talking about sacking their coach and external criticism, that seems to me like a problem where potentially everyone world is not on the same wavelength, and the players talked about it, where and how they should play their role in the team,” continued Watson.

“It shouldn’t be, but it is, and that’s what you need to fix.

“It’s not an external issue, we’re talking about issues specific to the way they play and they need to be dealt with as part of training, coming in and sorting out a miscommunication.

“That’s what the coaching staff are there to do, they’re there to put the players on the same page and explain to them what they need to do.”

Meanwhile, Rutten isn’t the only man in the line for the club record which puts them 16th on the ladder with a 72.3 save percentage.

List manager Adrian Dodoro has held the position since 2010 and is yet to see a final victory in his tenure, with criticism over holes in the club’s roster.

However, Watson brushed off criticism directed at the club’s recruitment.

“When you win you look inside and when you lose you look outside, that’s how it is and that’s where Essendon is at,” he said.

“People weren’t saying that at the end of last season, they weren’t saying that when Essendon went to the final last year, they were saying, ‘Great recruiting, you’ve got (top 10 signings) Nik Cox, you have Zach Reid and Archie Perkins, it was all very positive just six months ago.

Essendon returns to Marvel Stadium on Saturday night when they adopt an upgraded Hawthorn outfit.

The Daily Herald – Sarah: COHO is not a solution for lasting reform https://lutravision.com/the-daily-herald-sarah-coho-is-not-a-solution-for-lasting-reform/ Tue, 03 May 2022 04:06:48 +0000 https://lutravision.com/the-daily-herald-sarah-coho-is-not-a-solution-for-lasting-reform/ PHILIPSBURG — Sarah Wescot-Williams, United Democrats (UD) MP, said Monday that when discussions of the IPKO Kingdom interparliamentary consultation begin this Wednesday, the elephant in the room will be the Kingdom’s consensus bill to establish the Caribbean Body for Reform and Development COHO for Dutch Caribbean countries Aruba, Curaçao and St. Maarten. The COHO bill […]]]>

PHILIPSBURG — Sarah Wescot-Williams, United Democrats (UD) MP, said Monday that when discussions of the IPKO Kingdom interparliamentary consultation begin this Wednesday, the elephant in the room will be the Kingdom’s consensus bill to establish the Caribbean Body for Reform and Development COHO for Dutch Caribbean countries Aruba, Curaçao and St. Maarten.

The COHO bill is being debated at the Tripartite meeting of the three Caribbean nations today, Tuesday, as it will be at the IPKO quadripartite meetings.

The parliaments of the four countries are all at different stages of processing this law. However, all eyes are on the first and second chambers of the Netherlands’ parliament, as that is where the votes will eventually fall, Wescot-Williams said in a press release on Monday.

“Essentially, the question is whether parliaments are for or against the current draft, what are they opposed to and what if there is no consensus to be reached? she asked.

Some supporters of the law or parts of the law equate this COHO law with much-needed reforms, she said. Others see in the law the materialization finally of essential evolutions.

It is from this premise that Westot-Williams approaches the COHO bill.

In his view, the origin of building COHO was not to help countries develop, it was “a clear and simple way to advance a plethora of issues via a (new) type of higher oversight” .

“We apparently forgot that the forerunner of COHO was CHE, the Caribbean Reform Entity, an entity that would oversee and report on agreed reforms, which even initially included the country’s infrastructure, which was later reversed,” she stated.

“CHE strongly opposed this, as its attacks on the constitutional order of the Kingdom of the Netherlands were as blatant as day. All of this is taking place in a tense political environment between the Kingdom’s partners and this tense political environment has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic which has had the four countries in its grip,” she said. “It must be said, however, that for emergency relief, especially in the field of health, the Netherlands has sprung into action without hesitation towards its smaller partners in the Kingdom.

“While it is well known that the initial reform entity was rejected due to its profound usurpation of the responsibilities and autonomy of the countries, the spirit of this construction nevertheless remained in the COHO.

“Country packages have been agreed between the Netherlands and the respective countries via the mutual agreement format of article 38, under 1 of the Kingdom Charter. This type of agreement, which has become too common, escapes the parliamentary control and its use must be reviewed.

“The government of Saint-Martin has gone around this whole thing with different parts of the government in power on completely opposite trajectories, which has led to some very embarrassing moments, such as the partial rejection of the UN petition filed in the name of the Parliament of Saint-Martin, the embarrassing moments of the meetings of the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom.

“More recently, in a technical meeting behind closed doors with the Prime Minister present, Parliament was briefed on how Saint-Martin had defended its position, to be followed by a public meeting of the Central Committee where we heard again how the hands of the government were twisted to reach a consensus between the four governments.

She said the country package is far from a national reform program based on goals, objectives and priorities. The country package, she notes, is a “hodgepodge” of areas of reform, some urgently needed, some desirable, some still demanded of St. Maarten, then random actions without any motivation or priority.

“The COHO project is a clever way to force the hand of the governments of the ACS countries. It is a form of higher oversight without the legality of higher oversight and that, in my view, does not contribute to sustainability,” she said. “I foresee major problems with the funding of the reform packages, without a clear financial picture on COHO’s side. Not to mention the continued negative evolution of our debt position.

“While it is true that in the country package some long-agreed reforms (e.g. tax reform and financial reform) are seeing the light of day again, unfortunately the country package is not a complete and synchronized set of measures based on a vision for the country moving forward.

She said comprehensive reforms such as those dictated by the country package must be preceded by a plan, setting out the envisaged development goals and future prospects.

The government’s budget will now be approved on the basis of the country’s reform program, which considerably ties the hands of the government.

“It is a global control of the budget and violates the budgetary law of parliaments. Parliament’s oversight role will be relegated to automatic approval, because by the time the budget reaches Parliament, the implementation program, projects and capital investments will have already been signed. The now added role of CFT [Committee for Financial Supervision – Ed.] is also worrying because there will be overlaps and there are still too many ambiguities.

She said that even though the management of the Trust Fund by the World Bank is highly bureaucratic, the existence of the (temporary) National Recovery Program Office (NRBP) ensures “local color” and shows how even for an organization temporary, if it is to be permanent, the foundation must be established locally. “The same can be said for the COHO construction, so any other configuration should be designed with durability and capacity building in mind.”

Wescot-Williams believes that national programs/implementation programs need to be overhauled.

“Many of the problems we face with the construction of the World Bank Trust Fund will be repeated with the organization of temporary work as well as with the COHO. Problems [will be encountered] such as reaching agreement on how and when to proceed, having the local capacity to act as counterparties, and the lack of a public national plan in which all of this takes shape.

“On top of all this, if the government continues to roll out anything and the people, stakeholders and different sectors are not involved in what the government is doing, it will create an atmosphere of mistrust and polarization. at national scale.”

She stated that the powers delegated to the COHO organization are more of a development and investment banking type of structure with all the necessary checks and balances that such an institution requires; a development structure better suited to small islands, ensuring that checks and balances are in place and that accountability has teeth.

“It’s not for lack of plans per se, like we’ve had many tax reform plans, we’ve (had) education plans, financial reform plans, we have a universal health insurance plan, we “We have an inventory of our young people in collaboration with UNICEF. Were they even announced during the presentation of the country package? ” she wonders in her remarks on the COHO bill.

“I can only hope that we can have an open discussion with other parliaments in the kingdom on this bill which emerged at a time of distrust, impatience and antagonism, at least in the case of Saint-Martin and that the principle of consensus will be respected throughout the process,” she said.

Residents and private community leaders in the Township of Fairview share a common goal: to save the lake. But their opinions differ on how to proceed.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — A cabin on Silver Lake in Fairview Township near Lewisberry has been owned by the family of Scott and Kathleen Webb since the 1930s.

“It’s part of the fabric of our social life,” Kathleen Webb said. “We have meetings here with extended family all the time because they’ve been doing that their whole lives too.”

Now they and other residents fear the lake is in danger.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection notified the Silver Lake Community Association in 2013 that the lake’s earth dam was deficient and in need of rehabilitation and improvements.

According to the DEP, the reservoir created by the dam “has very little freeboard above the normal operating level of the reservoir.”

The department says the dam “also lacks a spillway system capable of safely passing the required design storm flows over 100 years, and has been overrun in past storms, as was the case with the dam. ‘Hurricane Ida last year’.

If the dam is not repaired quickly, residents say the DEP will order it to be drained.

“It is a place that has been built over families and generations and in addition to being special in this regard, wildlife and wildlife preservation are also important,” said resident Elysa Boffo.

The DEP also requires that the reservoir level remain partially lowered as a risk reduction measure until the dam is properly rehabilitated.

As it is a private lake, it is up to the Silver Lake Community Association to pay for the repairs, which are estimated to cost six figures.

The residents and the Board of Directors of the Association have the same objective: to save the lake.

The problem is that the two sides don’t agree on how to do it.

“Our approach was to bring together a number of homeowners who could afford to do interest-free loans,” Scott Webb said.

Webb says that while the owners would still have to pay the money back, it would be a smaller lump sum in the long run.

Board members tell FOX43 they haven’t rejected that proposal, but they’re just not sure it’s the best way forward.

“It’s very good that they want to give us a loan but we don’t even know how much we need so as a council how can we go to our residents and say ‘These people are going to give us money’ money and we have to pay at the time,” said Scotty Roberge, vice president of the Silver Lake Community Association.

The community of Silver Lake is made up of families with diverse incomes.

Residents are worried if the council doesn’t accept interest-free loans they will decide on another form of payment – which will end up costing landlords more.

“Hospital bills, property taxes, this, that, I won’t be able to do it anymore,” resident Brenda Himes said. “I can’t make their payments.”

Although the lake may end up being saved, it is the community they most fear losing.

“Three people have already sold their homes because of this, and there will be many more, including myself, which is a shame,” Himes said.

“We’ll lose friends we’ve had for years if we don’t do it the right way,” Webb added.

Residents of the Silver Lake community have scheduled an unofficial meeting for May 7 to discuss the matter.

Roberge said that this is not an Association sanctioned meeting and that Board members will not be attending.

The council has set a meeting for June 4 at 10 a.m. at Lewisberry Borough Park.

Roberge says residents can attend this meeting.

TOSTEM offers “Home Solution & Living Space” at ASA’22 Expo, aiming to gain more market share in Thailand

Tostem Thailand, Japan’s leading aluminum window and door manufacturing brand, is planning to capture more market share in Thailand, especially in the retail (B2C) market, as it foresees a greater opportunity for meet growing demand in a disruptive living environment amid the pandemic and increasing intergeneration.

Mr Wicha Worasayun, leader, Thailand, LHT Asia, Japan’s most respected name in building materials, housing products and services and owner of the Tostem brand, said the company foresees growing demand not only for functional and quality housing, but also for good design. For the sake of design, minimal and functional Japanese designs can also meet the current requirements of many Thai customers.

Mr. Wicha pointed out that the current demands for housing products have been driven by two factors. The first is the changing lifestyle that forces people to “work from home” and spend more time at home, so people are more concerned about space, air circulation and the countryside. In addition, a growing aging society and intergeneration, in which the same dwelling houses several generations of elderly people and children, will also influence the housing products which must meet the needs of everyone.

Thus, the company’s products which have developed and relied on Japanese influence can also meet local demand well in the current period and in the future.

“Before the pandemic, the company’s main revenues largely came from projects or business-to-business. However, in the wake of the pandemic, the company is earning more revenue from retail or retail as individuals are increasingly afraid to spend time at home. So, from now on, the company will focus more on the retail market by launching three strategies to attract more customers in the Thai market,” he said.

He explained that before the COVID-19 pandemic, around 70% of the company’s sales came from B2B or project customers, while around 30% came from the retail or B2C market. But post-pandemic, B2B revenues have been suspended, while retail sales have increased dramatically.

As part of strategies to reach more retail customers, Tostem will continue to introduce new products to meet particular demand. Last year, Tostem launched ATIS, its latest collection of window models. ATIS: The Art of the View is a collection of windows created with an artistic and minimal design, and offers products for every room in the house. ATIS sliding windows are fitted with a safety cap ensuring that anyone using them does not injure themselves. The awning window comes with an orbital handle, simply designed, simply functional. The tilt and slide window has two elements, tilt and slide, all in one. ATIS windows are equipped with an intelligent screen system with an invisible screen preventing insects from entering, letting in more air and increasing transparency. ATIS products are easy to use by the elderly and children.

Then Tostem will produce a custom-made product for each retail customer. It will focus more on the quality and long-term use of the products. It will continue to develop products that are durable and meet the different demands of each customer.

Third, the company will increase the touch point with customers by increasing more virtual showrooms through an online system by adopting digital technology to meet market interests. It will also expand more showrooms through its partners nationwide, especially in business and tourist cities where a growing number of residential builders, resorts and homes.

With these strategies, Wicha expects the company to see sales growth of up to 40% this year.

According to the company, in the first quarter of this year, the company’s sales increased by 20% year-on-year.

Mr. Pakorn Mahapantdesign director of M Space – a company of architects, said that today Thai consumers favor not only quality and functionality, but also design, as people spend more time home since the pandemic.

“More and more Thai people like Japanese housing architecture and design because it provides a connecting space between the living area and the outside environment. Tostem’s products help cater to Thai customers from different angles as they are high quality, functional, well-designed and offer a connection to nature, including fresh air and open spaces,” Mr. Pakorn added. .

Tostem is a brand of home products. Aluminum windows belonging to Lixil Japan, building materials and decoration business group. It is known for its simple and elegant design and full functionality as a total housing solution with its notable for being pre-engineered system in production.
