Andhadhun is not only one of the best thrillers of all time, it is also one of the best performances of Ayushmann Khurrana’s illustrious career. In Andhadhun, directed by Sriram Raghavan, Ayushmann played the role of a pianist who claims to be blind. The actor pulled off the act of being a visually impaired person, but did you know he had to do something to make it all right? After the film’s release, Ayushmann revealed that he had trained with a visually impaired pianist and had been made to wear a pair of special lenses that impair his vision by 80%.

Ayushmann Khurrana won his first national award for best actor for his performance in Sriram Raghavan’s Andhadhun. As they say, you have to work hard to be successful. Ayushmann also had to do his share of hard work to earn the coveted recognition. In addition to practicing the piano for hours without a break for months, he trained with a visually impaired pianist, Rahul, to get into his character and do him justice. Ayushmann used an eye mask for daily activities so that he understood body language.

And that was not all. The Andhadhun team decided to buy a special pair of lenses in London. Ayushmann revealed that the lenses impair his vision by almost 80%. “For the shoot, the crew got a pair of special lenses from London that made me look blind. These lenses interfered with my eyesight by 80 percent. Coupled with dark glasses, my vision was 90% affected. This is how I shot the whole movie. Since I couldn’t see through the glasses, my body language changed. I would be more skeptical when walking, which would translate better to the character, ”Ayushmann said in a mid-day interview.

Makeup artist and prosthetic designer Preetisheel Singh had shared some interesting details about the special lenses Ayushmann Khurrana wears for Andhadhunin during an interview with qnaindia.com. She said, “Andhadhun didn’t need heavy prosthetics like a lot of other movies I’ve made, but giving Ayushmann Khurrana a blind look required a special kind of lens. The goals were tailor-made for the character to make it realistic. These are not the regular lenses you get on the market, they are “scleral lenses” that cover the entire visible part of your eyes. The only downside is that they blur your vision, but Ayushmann was really cooperative and did an amazing job since he couldn’t really see much. “

Released on October 5, 2018, Andhadhun was beloved by film critics and audiences alike. It also stars Tabu and Radhika Apte in key roles. The film was also remade in Telugu like Maestro, Tamil like Andhagan and Malayalam like Bhramam. While Nithiin starred in the Telugu movie, Prashanth and Prithviraj Sukumaran took Ayushmann’s place in the Tamil and Malayalam versions, respectively.
